Byl Adam
Lead Teacher (he/him)
Byl joined the staff of Park West Co-op in 2008 as a Parent-Toddler class facilitator, and over the years has also worked as a classroom assistant, Camp Sunshine counselor, and administrative assistant in the office. He is excited to be starting his sixth year as a lead teacher, as well as another year with the Parent-Toddler class and providing administrative support in the office. Before coming to Park West, Byl served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Suriname, where he worked with members of his host village to create the community’s first preschool program. Upon completing his service he obtained his master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Illinois-Chicago. Byl was drawn to Park West Co-op because of its strong community atmosphere and the school’s philosophy of keeping the developmental needs of young children as the center of its programming. He values the opportunity to support young children in developing their abilities to express themselves creatively and thrive in a group setting, as well as expanding their musical horizons while dancing on the group time rug. When he’s not at Park West Byl enjoys seeing live music, photographing Chicago’s historic cemeteries, traveling to visit his family in northeast Ohio, and spending time with his cat Buzzy.
