parents day 2024-2025
Parents’ Day is a special tradition here at Park West. It is an opportunity for all children to spend time in the classroom together with their parents. This is a shortened day at school where children should attend with a parent, grandparent, special person or caregiver.
We found that by shortening this day to only the time when parents are present meant less stress for kids not needing to anxiously await their parents arrival. It also seemed easier than asking parents to drop off, kill time for an hour, and then show up again for the event.
When you arrive at school you will be invited to spend about an hour playing in the classroom with your child. Teachers do make thoughtful choices about the activities they offer for this day, but after many years of Parents’ Days what we have come to understand is that children are most excited to share the everyday experiences of school with you. At Park West children understand that school is their place; it is a place where they have autonomy, where they know what to do and what to expect. We encourage you, or whoever attends school with your child, to focus on the interests of your child. Use this time to let them be your guide and relish in the pride they feel in all they know about how to be at school. Thank you for taking the time to participate in this Park West tradition.

*Note: this special day is for current Park West students and their parents. No siblings should attend.
A note about platemaking: Platemaking is another beloved Park West tradition. Children are given a template (a piece of paper with a circle on it) and invited to write or draw on it however they wish. These drawings are then sent off to be printed onto plates, bowls, platters or cups. So many children adore their Park West plates and bowls and take pride in using them at home. Long-time families may have entire sets of plates and bowls at their houses by now! It really is a fun tradition. We will be sharing the template and pricing information soon, which will also be available on the day of the event. We will have someone stationed in each room at the end of Parents’ Days to collect order forms and take electronic payment.
If your child or any siblings would like to create their artwork at home rather than at the end of Parents’ Day, you may take home a copy of the template and order form from your classroom or you can print them here. Any templates and order forms completed at home will need to be delivered to school no later than Wednesday, March 5th.
